How it works

Three rules. Endless puzzles.

Full guide →

1. Read the board

Every arrow points up, down, left or right. Nothing moves until you tap it, so you can study the whole grid first.

2. Slide into empty space

An arrow moves one cell per tap, and only if the next cell is empty. Blocked arrows wait until something ahead of them leaves.

3. Clear the edges

When an arrow reaches the border it escapes and disappears. Free the right arrows in the right order and the whole board empties.

Why players keep solving

Quiet logic, real “aha” moments.

Pure deduction, no timer

There is no countdown, so a level is a puzzle to reason through rather than a reflex test. The board stays still until you act.

Chain dependencies

Later levels weave arrows together so one move frees three others. Finding that sequence is the entire reward.

100 designed levels

Six visual patterns — Diamond, Heart, Leaf, Flower, Star and Maze — take you from 8×8 starters to dense expert boards.

Daily + leaderboards

The daily board is identical for everyone. Fewer mistakes earn more stars, and the leaderboard ranks by stars, then moves, then time.

Difficulty curve

From first tap to expert maze

Arrow Escape is built as a curriculum rather than a set of unrelated boards. The first levels use small 8×8 grids and short, straight arrows, so the basic rule — move into empty space, leave through the edge — is learned in a few taps. Boards then grow outward through six recognisable shapes, adding longer paths and gentle L-bends before the arrows begin to depend on one another.

By the middle of the game, a single arrow often cannot move until two or three others have left. That is where the puzzle becomes a planning exercise: you look for the arrows that are already free, clear them, and watch which new arrows open up. Expert levels compress those chains into dense mazes where one careless tap can lock an entire region.

  • Beginner (1–4): 8×8 boards, short straight arrows, lots of free moves.
  • Easy (5–12): Heart and Leaf patterns with gentle bends.
  • Medium (13–20): Flower and Star shapes, snake-like paths and first real blockages.
  • Hard (21–50): multi-step chains that reward planning over tapping.
  • Expert (51–100): dense mazes with branching dependencies and very few safe first moves.

Tips before you start

Scan the border first. Arrows already pointing at an empty edge are free progress and often unlock the next layer. Work inwards instead of tapping the first arrow you see. When two moves look equally good, prefer the one that opens the longest run of empty cells, because that gives the most future options.

Stuck? The hint button highlights every currently legal arrow, which is often enough to spot the move you overlooked. Undo is there for experimenting: it is usually faster to try a sequence and rewind than to stare at a board for minutes. More detailed tactics live in thestrategy guides.

About the puzzle

What makes a good Arrow Escape puzzle?

Arrow Escape is deliberately transparent. The entire board is visible from the first second, there is no hidden information and no element of luck. Every level is solvable, and every arrow has a fixed distance to travel before it leaves the grid, so a board has a definite minimum move count. When a run goes wrong, it is always possible to point to the move that caused it — which makes the game unusually good at teaching patience.

That transparency also makes it a comfortable game to return to. There is no timer counting down and no energy system to manage. You can study a board for thirty seconds, close the tab, and come back later; your level progress is kept in the browser. The daily challenge adds a shared rhythm without turning the rest of the game into a competition, and the leaderboard ranks stars before speed so that careful play is rewarded over frantic tapping.

The game is free to play in the browser on desktop, tablet and phone, with no download and no account. If you want the reasoning behind the first few levels, read thefull guide; if you want to compare approaches, thestrategy section covers edge-first clearing, blocker chains and backward thinking.

FAQ

Arrow Escape questions

Is Arrow Escape free to play?

Yes. Every level, the daily challenge and all hints are free to play in your browser. There is no download, no sign-up and no paywall. The game is supported by optional advertising on the site.

What is the goal of Arrow Escape?

Each board is filled with arrows pointing up, down, left or right. Tap an arrow to slide it one cell in the direction it points. When an arrow reaches the edge of the board it leaves the grid. Clear every arrow to finish the level.

Do arrows block each other?

Yes, and that is the core of the puzzle. An arrow can only move into an empty cell, so arrows frequently block the path of other arrows. The challenge is finding an order that frees each arrow in turn instead of trapping yourself.

Are the levels random or handcrafted?

The first 100 levels are handcrafted around six visual patterns — Diamond, Heart, Leaf, Flower, Star and Maze — with a deliberate difficulty curve. After level 100 the game continues with generated boards built on the same rules.

Can I undo a move?

Yes. Every level starts with three undos, so a mistaken tap does not usually ruin a run. If you run out, you can restart the level without losing your overall progress.

How do hints work?

The Hint button highlights every arrow that can currently be moved. It shows legal moves rather than the single “correct” move, so you still choose the strategy. Each level gives you two free hints.

Is there a time limit?

No. Arrow Escape is a logic game, not a speed game, so you can take as long as you like on a board. The daily challenge records your moves and time for the leaderboard, but there is no timer that ends the level.

Does Arrow Escape work on phones and tablets?

Yes. The board scales to the available screen, arrows respond to taps, and the controls sit within thumb reach. It works in modern mobile browsers on iOS and Android, and you can add it to your home screen.

Is Arrow Escape the same as Arrow Puzzle?

Yes. Arrow Escape, Arrow Puzzle, Arrows Escape and Arrow Out are different names used for this style of arrow-clearing puzzle. The rules are the same: move an arrow into empty cells until it leaves the board, then clear every arrow.

Do I need to download Arrow Escape?

No. Arrow Escape runs in your browser on desktop, tablet and phone. There is no app-store download; if you want an app-like experience, use Add to Home Screen in your browser.

What other names do players use?

Players also search for Arrows Escape, Arrow Out Puzzle and Arrow Go. Arrow Go is a separate name used for similar arrow games, but the core tap-and-clear puzzle here follows the same rules.
